Brighton Yarnbombing

If you don’t know what yarnbombing is check out www.yarnbombing.com or read up on it at Wikipedia. It’s basically a street art sub-genre for people who are mad about knitting. I know it doesn’t sound that exciting, I mean I wouldn’t want to sit at home and knit and pearl, no matter how cool the cause. But the truth is that when you see it in action it really is exciting, I first came across the phenomenon about a year ago via Knit The City and wrote this post at my personal art blog.

It’s great to see a phone box jazzed up like this…

Spindle Magazine have organised a yarnbombing of Brighton in Sussex, UK that sounds like fun. I can’t get involved for a few reasons, I can’t knit, it’s my Dad’s funeral tomorrow and in all honesty I’m too much of a homebody these days anyway. So the next best thing is to give them a shout in my blog and hope they get the numbers they deserve.

If you’re in Brighton and bored then why not contact the yarnbombers at Facebook or you can message/email Emily Bosence with your email addy and phone number for more info. What I do know is that it has been organised for Saturday 3rd April from 7am to 6pm. They need loads of bobbles and everyone will need a balaclava, so I’ve heard :p

Update: Here’s the latest, a yarn bombed bus stop in Brighton (photo courtesy of Goldstone Road).

Thanks for the comment Grace. I see it as just fun, street architecture is so cold and uninviting, I’m not sure I’d agree with doing it to trees, that’s rather inconsiderate. Especially if it’s left to decay, that would look rotten lol. Still in the city, I like to see it, you’re right it does no harm and besides, like I say, it’s fun ;)

Knowing that somewhere in the world someone is doing this, somehow gives me faith in mankind.

Totally. Life is filled with conformism, sometimes mindless conformism, at least some people are freaking out against the system, even if it is with a little knitting. ;)

Hello yarnbombers! I saw a lovely knitted bus stop on the seafront in Brighton. I took a picture of it on my phone; is there some way I can upload it here? xx
